Health Policy and the Affordable Care Act, Spring 2015

Laura C. Hart, MFA
Director of Online Educational Initiatives

Health care professionals need to continue to learn in order to best serve their patients, clients, and institutions, especially as rapid change transforms the industry.

Those who participate in online courses from the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy gain knowledge and insight shared by University of Pennsylvania faculty that they can apply to their own work. They join a global classroom and attend at their convenience.

Nearly 50,000 learners around the world participated in the Department’s initial online courses, through a partnership with Coursera:

  • Health Policy and the Affordable Care Act, by Ezekiel J. Emanuel, MD, PhD
  • Rationing and Allocating Scarce Medical Resources, by Dr. Emanuel
  • Neuroethics, by Jonathan D. Moreno, PhD

Plans are underway to expand Penn’s online courses in medical ethics and in health policy during 2016 through these initiatives:

  • CME/continuing education units for professional improvement
  • MOOCs for lifelong learning
  • Professional development courses for career advancement
